Experimenting with illustration design ideas

Planning:

Complete new idea to expand my creativity. On this piece of work I have gone out of my usual ways of what I create.. as you can see I have drawn a deer’s head on what you can say is a mans body. This work also relates to Pat Perry’s style of work.

I was happy the way this piece started coming together, adding more colours and bigger brush strokes, to structure the shape of the deer’s head more, adding grays and yellows to represent the animals hair and features.

Further on, I continued to paint into the body of my painting and i didn’t like the idea or the way it looked so i started painting the body the same color as the head and it had improved, working more and more in to it! it started losing the way i could have liked it to be, it felt like i was repeating myself over and over. I left it the way it was and found i could talk about how i can improve if i did something similar in the future.

This is the point I didn’t like it and wanted to try something different.

Personal Statement

After recently having the chance to work for a commission producing a mural for Elmor, a charity organisation funded by the National Lottery, I have been able to identify and decide on my career pathway. This commission involved working with the theme of transport on a large scale within the confines of a windmill space.Working to the constraints of a brief and making the design fit the space is something that I found really exciting. This experience encouraged me to stay at college to complete a foundation course to develop not only my practical skills but further my understanding of the subject and gain my GCSE Maths and English qualifications. Whilst on this course I have had the opportunity to work across a range of disciplines including 3D, Film and Photography and to collaborate on a large scale project and further my contextual knowledge through a range of diverse visiting lectures and film screenings such as Michael Eden, Dean Hughes, Sean Dower, Daises and Never Let Me Go. These have given me the chance to speak to practitioners about working in the industry and ways to develop my work further. My current work has revolved around producing portraits and has been initially inspired from the collections from the V&A museum, I am exploring the idea of distortion through angles and colour. David Agenjo is a great artist that inspires me, I am particularly interested in the way he uses the canvas as a palette and a record for further developments. I am a little uncertain as to the direction of my career pathway or work, whether it follows a more illustrative or fine art route. I am interested in developing the technical aspects of my drawing and continuing to push my painting skills, I would like to push myself further exploring new techniques and developing academic critical reflection. I feel progressing to a degree course would help me to do that. I also feel that this will help me really focus on the direction of my own work, helping me to prepare for a career in the creative industry. Going to university would help me to achieve my career aspirations and ambition to be successful in my professional and creative development. I feel that I will really benefit from learning at a higher level by studying Fine Art at degree level. I am fully committed to give my full dedication to study.

Drawings

On this post I will be talking about my current artwork. The idea came by me when I was researching artists and found someone called Pat Perry who I talk about in a current post, their elegance with illustrations relate with what I have been wanting to experiment with and improve my drawing ability, it challenged me on a higher level learning to properly format and draw realistic objects correctly.

There are some areas I could have improved on but from the drawing taking a longer period of time to produce, from changing my mind to how it should look, I improvised on drawing in objects after I got my basic outlines on my paper.

This is also the largest scaled drawing I have created, using a ruler. I am more then happy up to the point I am at with this piece.. there is more progress to be made.

Portraiture Paintings

This was the first piece of work I did for the new project units 5 and 6, with this painting it was my aim to get back into the practice and methods of using a brush after having a period of time not working with acrylic paints. I found it difficult at first getting the colours that are in comparison with the photo I was working from, and would improve the pixel of my image next time I decide to do a painting. I was pleased with the basic outlines to how comparable I had drawn up the person in my image. img_7448

Colour: What I can say about the vibrant colours I have performed on this piece fit well proportioned.. the substantial amount of pinks and purples used toning the areas where the light source shines upon the face and t-shirt features.

NOT fully finished although it will be in time.. not to work into it too much I can announce this piece to a finished standard of liking.
